Good Day Sunshine!

Today was a beautiful day. The sun was out and it was in the upper 50's, so Tom and I decided to get outside and enjoy it. We took a walk through our neighborhood in the late afternoon and then decided head out to Lake Hefner to read and have a dinner picnic. We didn't want to go out like everyone else since it was the day before Valentine's Day and we figured every restaurant and movie theater would probably be packed. We got out to the lake and laid down some blankets and settled in to read for a bit before we called in some dinner from Red Rock Canyon Grill (one of my favorites). Tom called in our food and left to go pick it up and I made the decision that the picnic was not going to happen because it was REALLY chilly out by the lake. When Tom got back to our picnic site I had everything packed up and told him it was too cold to stay and he agreed. So we took our take-out food home to eat it.
A week or so ago Tom got a card in the mail from Helzberg Jewelers with a Valentine's Day deal for a free pearl bracelet (no strings attached) that expires on Feb. 14th. So after we ate dinner I asked Tom if we could go by the mall to redeem the Helzberg offer. Tom went into Helzberg while I looked around in a few other stores. I met up with him and he said they ran out of the bracelets so they gave him a pair of pearl earrings instead. That was fine by me. I'm not a big bracelet person anyway. I'll take a free pair of pearl earrings any day!

Celebrate Good Times!

Last night Tom and I went to dinner with Linda and Steve (Tom's parents) and Tiffany and Bryan (Tom's sister and her husband). The month of February is stacked with many things for our family to celebrate: our anniversary (2/25/06), Tiffany and Bryan's anniversary (2/14/00), and Tiffany's birthday (2/2). It's become a generous tradition that Linda and Steve take us all out to a REALLY nice restaurant every February. It's something we look forward to every year! This year we went to The Ranch Steakhouse. It was really yummy! Thank you Linda and Steve!

Everyone had steaks but Bryan and I. Bryan had the Ahi Tuna and I had the Australian lobster tail. I failed to take pix of everyone's main course but I did take pix of all the desserts! We got 3 complimentary desserts and ordered a 4th and shared them family style. But each of us gals were pretty possessive.

Steve with the Banana's Foster

Linda with the Creme Brulee

Tif with the Molten Chocolate Cake

Me with the Dulche de Leche Ice Cream Cake

Tom shoveling in another bite of Banana's Foster as I was trying to steal it

Posing on the cold patio by the warm fire

On our way home I decided to try the ever popular arm-length car pic, which didn't go so well. Every pic that was good of me was not good of Tom, or Tom was making a face. After several tries, I figured - If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Tradition, tradition!

Per tradition, I received a lovely bouquet of flowers from my Father-in-law, Steve for Valentine's Day. Tom and his dad sure know how to make a gal feel special! :)

My Funny Valentine

I got a sweet surprise at work today! My Valentine sent me a fresh cut bouquet of tulips. I was totally caught by surprise. It's really hard to surprise me and I don't think Tom has ever had a bouquet of fresh flowers delivered to me in the 6 1/2 years we've been together. Let me clarify, I have asked him not to get me bouquets because they are usually pretty pricey. Instead I've suggested if he's going to buy me flowers that he buy some sort of potted flower since they live longer and are cheaper. I also usually discourage him from doing anything for Valentine's Day because our anniversary is the 25th of February and that is more important to me. But sometimes it's good that he doesn't go by my suggestions because fresh flowers always make me smile. :)

What's funny is, for the past several years, Tom's dad has sent flowers to my office for Valentine's Day. So when I got this bouquet today I automatically assumed it was from his dad, but this is what the card said (sorry it's blurry).

After I read the card I immediately called Tom and told him thank you and that I loved them. I also confessed that before I read the card, I had assumed they were from his dad and he told me he thought I would think that.
I just love surprises!

Two Things

I thought I'd show you two "happies" I recently discovered .

First thing:
A few weeks ago a friend of mine,
Heather, had a Silpada jewelry party with another friend, Jessica (who is a Silpada rep), and I ordered a pair of earrings that Heather recommended.
They arrived in the mail on Saturday and I've worn them the past three days. Heather said this might happen because they go with everything. If you like these earrings or if you would like to see other cute sterling silver jewelry, you should check out Jessica's Silpada page, it is http://mysilpada.com/sites/jessica.rimmer/private/content/home.jsf. On that page there is an online catalog with all of the jewelry in it.

These are the earrings:

Second thing:
I've never preferred tea or been much of tea drinker. But lately, I've warmed to it and have been trying several different kinds.
There's a place in Penn Square Mall called Teavana that sells expensive yummy tea and they always have samples. So every time I'm at Penn Square I swing by and get a sample. One of the ones I like there is Samurai Chai Mate. I love it's spicy flavor. But, let's be real, it's not practical to spend a lot of money on tea. So I buy this equally as yummy, less expensive substitute by Celestial Seasonings called Bengal Spice.

It's really yummy if you add a little milk and sugar (I use splenda). I know those of you who have been drinking tea forever have probably already heard of it, but it's new to me!

Repitition

We humans are stubborn and thick headed (this is no revelation) and we sometimes don't clue into things until we encounter the same thing over and over. What I'm referring to is when God really wants to teach me something, it appears over and over in various ways. God often uses repetition to get His point across.

What He has been reminding me is that I am not meant to bear my own burdens.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

I've recently been reading through the book of Matthew and I just got to Chapter 11 today. I know the above verses well, but the message of these verses has been sent to me via several mediums lately. Each time it arrives in my heart, it is perfect timing.

Last Tuesday, on the way to a Dr.'s appointment when I was feeling weak and weary, I turned on the radio and the DJ was speaking this verse. It was just what I needed. Tuesday night after Tom and I were sharing our day with each other, Tom played the Watermark song "Captivate Us" for us to reel ourselves in and focus. The bridge in the song quotes Matthew 11:30. In Sunday School yesterday when
Vickey Banks was teaching, we read the referenced passage and she reiterated that we are not meant to go it alone. She stated that we are not truly resting in God if we are weary from our burdens.

All of that was a precursor to me reading that passage again today when I providentially came to Chapter 11. So, let's count how many times God brought the same message to me.

1. Tuesday afternoon
2. Tuesday night
3. Sunday morning
4. Monday morning

His word is powerful and His timing is perfect.

Changing it up

Okay, I already want to change the appearance of my blog. It's a bit busy and there are so many cute backgrounds out there to choose from. I'm thinking I will be giving it a makeover soon. I'm one of those gals who would rearrange our furniture every other month if the layout of our house was conducive to it. The way our furniture is now is pretty much the way it's going to have to stay though. I also make up alternate ways to commute to and from work because the monotony of the same route day in and day out just gets to me. I just like to change things up a little from time to time.

Today was a good Saturday. Tom (husband) and I were able to relax in the morning and have a bout of productivity in the afternoon/evening. One thing on the agenda was getting our cars washed and fitted with new windshield wipers. We hadn't washed our cars since before the Christmas Eve blizzard and the filth on them from the December and January snow/ice storms was driving me absolutely NUTS! Watch it rain tomorrow because we washed them. Hopefully our inclement winter weather is behind us. I believe I am ready for newness of springtime.

Here Goes...

Hello Blogosphere! Is there room in the sphere for me? After much thought and encouragement from others, I've decided to try my wings out at blogging. I've been a 'blog-stalker' (that sounds so creepy, but I mean it in the most flattering way) for a little over a year now and I have really enjoyed it. I've gleaned a plethora of valuable things from the blogs I read and I can't wait to share with you those things. But I think I'll share it all at a later date. I just wanted to say that I'm a blogger now and I can't wait to really get started!

About Me

Welcome to Sarandipity, my little corner of blog-land. I'm Sara, a twenty-something blogger, trying [heavy on the trying] to live a life completely reliant on the Lord.  I am wife to my best friend Tom, and  mom to Ruby, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Here I will share things from our life: our journey through infertility, memorable occasions, random thoughts, crafting projects, recipes, etc.

Thanks for stopping by!
