Happy Valentine's Day!

I received my traditional Valentine's Day bouquet from my FIL.  :)

We don't have big fancy plans tonight, and that is fine by me. We are just going to order some yummy take out from Saturn Grill and watch a few episodes of our newest favorite show, Parenthood, on Hulu Plus.  :)

I just had to borrow it because it's so stinkin' cute.

As tradition would have it, for the past 5 years, my FIL has sent a bouquet of flowers to my office for Valentine's Day. Thanks Steve, they're beautiful! :)

For the record, I told Tom NOT to get me a bouquet of flowers this year - and I really did mean it. We decided not to spend any money on each other and just have an evening at home since it fell on a Monday night. I made meatloaf, mashed sweet potatoes, broiled asparagus, and bananas foster. It was yum.my! I'll share the recipes in the posts to come.

All You Need is Love

Earlier this month I got the Valentine's decorations out of the attic and realized I wanted a few more finishing touches to make it complete. On Thursday I found the cutest wreath at Target for the front door, along with some Valentine blocks in the cheapy section at the front. I got 2 sets of the blocks because they were only $2.50 for a set of four. They are pink and red and either spell LOVE, HUGS, KISS, or XOXO depending on how you arrange them. Today I went to Michael's with my MIL and she bought me 2 apothecary jars (one with a 40% of coupon and the other with a 25% off coupon). I already had 1 apothecary jar and wanted to add 2 more to make a grouping of three. At Michael's I also found some 40% off heart ornaments to use as filler in the 3 jars.

Now that I've shown you my Valentine's Day decor, I wanted to add something I just thought of. A little over 5 years ago (before we bought our house) I remember telling my mom that decorating for all the smaller holidays was cheesy and hokey. I believe I even told her, "I will never do that when I get my own house." Well, now I'm all about it. So, I guess I've become cheesier/hokier since I said that. :/ Never say never I guess!

Good Day Sunshine!

Today was a beautiful day. The sun was out and it was in the upper 50's, so Tom and I decided to get outside and enjoy it. We took a walk through our neighborhood in the late afternoon and then decided head out to Lake Hefner to read and have a dinner picnic. We didn't want to go out like everyone else since it was the day before Valentine's Day and we figured every restaurant and movie theater would probably be packed. We got out to the lake and laid down some blankets and settled in to read for a bit before we called in some dinner from Red Rock Canyon Grill (one of my favorites). Tom called in our food and left to go pick it up and I made the decision that the picnic was not going to happen because it was REALLY chilly out by the lake. When Tom got back to our picnic site I had everything packed up and told him it was too cold to stay and he agreed. So we took our take-out food home to eat it.

A week or so ago Tom got a card in the mail from Helzberg Jewelers with a Valentine's Day deal for a free pearl bracelet (no strings attached) that expires on Feb. 14th. So after we ate dinner I asked Tom if we could go by the mall to redeem the Helzberg offer. Tom went into Helzberg while I looked around in a few other stores. I met up with him and he said they ran out of the bracelets so they gave him a pair of pearl earrings instead. That was fine by me. I'm not a big bracelet person anyway. I'll take a free pair of pearl earrings any day!

Per tradition, I received a lovely bouquet of flowers from my Father-in-law, Steve for Valentine's Day. Tom and his dad sure know how to make a gal feel special! :)

My Funny Valentine

I got a sweet surprise at work today! My Valentine sent me a fresh cut bouquet of tulips. I was totally caught by surprise. It's really hard to surprise me and I don't think Tom has ever had a bouquet of fresh flowers delivered to me in the 6 1/2 years we've been together. Let me clarify, I have asked him not to get me bouquets because they are usually pretty pricey. Instead I've suggested if he's going to buy me flowers that he buy some sort of potted flower since they live longer and are cheaper. I also usually discourage him from doing anything for Valentine's Day because our anniversary is the 25th of February and that is more important to me. But sometimes it's good that he doesn't go by my suggestions because fresh flowers always make me smile. :)




What's funny is, for the past several years, Tom's dad has sent flowers to my office for Valentine's Day. So when I got this bouquet today I automatically assumed it was from his dad, but this is what the card said (sorry it's blurry).



After I read the card I immediately called Tom and told him thank you and that I loved them. I also confessed that before I read the card, I had assumed they were from his dad and he told me he thought I would think that. I just love surprises!
